Kitchen painting ideas

June 19, 2012

An ordinary kitchen becomes an extraordinary-looking place with a painted plaid floor.

Why live with a lackluster kitchen when all it takes to make it look fresh and exciting is cleverly applied paint on the floor? The weekend project shown here transforms this kitchen, instantly updating its look. All it takes to create this crisp, plaid pattern is some simple measuring and painting.
Adding New Life * Besides adding new life and character to old wood floors, a painted finish can also camouflage any flaws and repairs. Linoleum, concrete or cement floors can also be painted, as long as they are properly prepared first (see page 21). After a floor is painted, three to five coats of varnish add sheen and protect your design, especially in high-traffic areas.
