The discovery of this particular chair was exciting because it was originally thought that only one existed. With its plywood seat and tubular steel legs, this early swivel chair by Jean Prouve (1901-1984) was made at a time when many people looked down on new materials and methods of mass production, Prouve, the son of Victor, the illustrious Art Nouveau designer, was an architect who designed some of the best modern French furniture using plastics and aluminium, as well as wood and steel.
